ACC/BCAF Contemporary Arts Fellowship Program 2019.12 - 2020.6

A kaleidoscope of events take place in every corner of the city, and organizations, groups and individuals connect each other and seem to have formed a network of chain operations. You have no idea how COVID-19 changes the city. People are willingly getting out of office buildings back home or to open public areas. The visual world is getting more and more active, and people are more eager to connect than when they could meet each other. The virus separates us, yet it seems we render the power to save this planet to the virus.

I see people in this city still living a positive life, from ignoring the necessity of wearing masks, to willing to put on homemade masks. I can observe that the freewheeling heart is slowly becoming cautious , only the desire for life and the prayer for peace, the energy between each other gives. Every day at 7p.m., people across the city cheer for the medical staff. At that moment, you could be easily moved by the warmth of humanity. The dividing line between New York's liveliness and quietness is so clear that it’s an extreme transition. The virus may have brought the world together for a while, giving us plenty of time to pause and think. In the face of massive death cases everyday, it has arrived at a near-catastrophic moment, and the cultural differences between East and West, prejudice, and discrimination are no longer important. How do we turn conflicts into a mutual drive? What should we do now? What impact will it have on the environment in the future? These are what we need to think about.

How do we get along with our vulnerability? This world is a huge domino game, and you never know when you’d become the next dice. This is an important lesson for all human beings.
