WANG XUANQI
DANCER|Founder of the UNTITLED GROUP
Wang currently resides in Beijing where she works as a choreographer and performer. Her physical explorations focus on physical dynamics while using the body as a channel to observe daily phenomena. Since joining the Untitled Group in 2016 as one of its founding dancers, Wang has created works that originate from bodily actions, aiming to situate the language of the body in individual circumstances through the practice of "drive," as well as paying attention to the subtle connections between people and their environment.
Since 2021, Wang Xuanqi has co-initiated and organized the "Crossing Project" with Gu Jiani, serving as its co-founder, mentor, and editor. Inspired by human connections and organic ways of body-mind integration, she has been deeply involved in the contact improvisation community in Beijing in recent years. She is one of the community organizers and workshop facilitators for BJCI (Beijing Contact Improvisation) and also a co- founder of "Thursday Afternoon Lab," a group focusing on dance improvisation, embodied philosophy, and generating performances from research, emphasizing experimentation and the potential of engaging the public.
Her debut theater piece, How to Land, questions how weight affects different phenomena through a combination of movement and imagery, exploring extremely slow dynamics. Her choreographic and performance works include How to Land, RIGHT&LEFT, and EXIT (commissioned jointly by the Shanghai International Arts Festival's Young Artists Support Program and the Taiwanese Opera Institutions).
